THE DIRECT APPOINTMENT PROGRAM
If you want to redirect your career and pursue law in a gratifying work environment that respects your talent, time and readiness to do meaningful work, the Direct Appointment Program is for you.
ELIGIBILITY
U.S. Citizen (birth or naturalization)
• Able to commission before age 42
• Enrolled in or graduated from an ABA-approved law school
• Attorneys: Licensed in good standing with the highest court of any U.S. state or federal territory
• Law school graduates: Pending bar exam/ licensure
• Law students: Completed 2/3 of Juris Doctor credit hours
• Meet medical/physical fitness standard
RESPONSIBILITIES
Federal prosecution under Uniform Code of Military Justice (Title 10, U.S.C.) and in federal magistrate court •
Defend accused or represent victims in military justice proceedings •
Advise commanders on administrative procedures, ethics, and more •
Provide legal assistance to military members, retirees, and their families
BENEFITS
Commission as O-2 (First Lieutenant); eligible for O-3 (Captain) promotion in 6 months •
