The Office of Student Affairs is excited to invite students, faculty, and staff to participate in our community “ofrenda” (altar) in the Main Lobby, inspired by Dia de los Muertos and other Festivals of the Dead from around the world. The Day of the Dead holiday is thought to have grown from Indigenous origins blending with European traditions in Mexico and today is a national symbol of Mexican and Mexican-American heritage.

Our Community Remembrance Altar welcomes all members of our UBalt Law community to honor and remember loved ones, neighbors, friends, pets, and community members who have died. You are invited to add a photo, write a memory, add a personal offering, or spend a quiet moment reflecting. Free materials will be available for those who want to participate but didn’t bring a personal item.

Our Community Remembrance Altar will officially CLOSE on Monday, November 2nd at 5pm. If you’d like to take back your photo or personal offering, please do so by this date. Join us for a special movie screening in the Moot Courtroom immediately following the closing of our altar.

Some altar etiquette to consider due to our unique school setting:
- NO real food or liquids (cookies, beer, etc.)
- NO real flowers or plants (including sealed tobacco products like cigars or cigarettes)
- NO flames (candles or incense)
- NO scented materials (incense, sprays, etc.)
- NO latex

People of every belief and background are welcome to participate!
